Fast Facts:

Latest Auditor General report exposes Barnett Government ICT mismanagement.
$6 million “paperless hospital” project abandoned at Fiona Stanley.
Investigation commenced upon request from the Acting Director General of Health.

The latest report into the Fiona Stanley Hospital affair has criticised the Barnett Government for wasting taxpayers’ money and failing to deliver a ‘paperless hospital’.

The Auditor General’s report reveals another example of the Barnett Government making a mess of Fiona Stanley Hospital, with the ICT affair costing $370million.

The audit was requested last year by Acting Director General of Health, Bryant Stokes, after concerns were raised regarding the Identity Access Management Project and the potential impact on the opening of the hospital.

The Auditor General said the project was poorly planned, managed and monitored.

The Barnett Government has already had to cancel important hospital upgrades to pay for the mismanagement at Fiona Stanley Hospital and delay the opening of the hospital.

Comments from Shadow Health Minister Roger Cook:

“This damning report is the latest chapter in the Fiona Stanley Hospital affair.”

“The Barnett Government has failed to oversee the project and its mismanagement has seen a whole project abandoned, even after $6million of taxpayers” was spent on it.”

“The Auditor General has exposed the failure of the Barnett Government to pay attention to detail and deliver a hospital without cost blowouts.”

“Health Minister Kim Hames has one eye on retirement and doesn‟t care about wasting millions of dollars.”

“WA taxpayers are paying the price for the Barnett Government‟s sloppy mismanagement.”
