Lack of mobile reception at FSH putting patients’ lives at risk

Another bungle at Fiona Stanley Hospital is putting patients’ lives at risk. This time it’s the lack of mobile phone reception.

As reported in the West Australian, doctors say patients’ lives are at risk because some staff cannot get mobile phone reception at FSH.

There have already been several high-risk incidents where surgeons have missed calls about seriously ill patients at other hospitals because they could not get mobile reception at the Murdoch campus.

This is simply not good enough, and again reflects the oversight and mismanagement of this project.

Further, it follows another recent IT outage that crippled wireless devices, mobile duress alarms and pagers.

This is a basic requirement of a hospital, which has been seriously overlooked. It is unacceptable that doctors and nurses could not be contacted in potentially life-and-death situations.
