Serco ordered to pay $1 million in penalties over FSH failure

As reported recently, Serco has been forced to pay about $1 million in penalties for failing to achieve key performance targets at Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH).

The penalties (abatements) were outlined during a budget estimates hearing in Parliament.

The contractor provides non-medical services at FSH and has been the subject of severe criticism for its handling of areas such as sterilisation.

The hearing was told the penalties were incurred across 27 service areas with five problems areas, including cleaning, logistics and information technology.

Since October, Serco has received just over $45 million in contract payments.

The State Government has elected to partially take over sterilisation services at FSH, but that handover has yet to be finalised.
